Homemade popsicles

It might be a bit early for popsicles, but Summer is coming, and sometimes you just really want a cold fruity icy snack, but not a giant load of sugar and chemicals.  There are lots of recipes on the web, but this is my version.  I think we will have fun experimenting with these this Summer.  Yogurt and fruit would be good together too.

Whatever you have on hand for fruit would be fine.  Even less than perfect fruit.  Over ripe strawberries, browning bananas, etc.  Kiwi’s have been on sale, four for $1 was a great price.  But pineapple from a can, crushed or chunked, and use the juice too.  Those little canned mandarin oranges are good.  Be creative, whatever you like.

These pop makers are easy to find, or something similar.

Cut up or crush fruit.

Fill the pop with fruit.  Then fill it with juice.  A knife down the side will let all the trapped air pockets escape.  Freeze for a few hours.

So yummy and refreshing.  And if the juice you are using is actually juice and not juice drink, then not too much sugar in these.  Have fun with it!

  1. YUM! I am going to make these for sure! And will try the Iced Tea and lemonade ones as well. Where did you get the pop makers?

  2. Can I double YUM that?
Once you start thinking about it, the combinations are endless.
My Mom used to use Dixie cups as containers and when they were half frozen, she would stick in craft store sticks. Mom was never as creative as you are. I think juice and Kool-aid was the extent of her repertoire.
    Great suggestions.
